Our Story
Hearthstone Crafts was born from a love of creativity and the belief that making something with your hands should feel warm, joyful, and deeply personal. Nestled in the mountains of Lake Arrowhead, we create meaningful craft experiences that help people slow down, explore, and reconnect with their creative spirit. Our name, Hearthstone Crafts, reflects everything we value: the comfort of gathering together, the grounding nature of handmade work, and the spark of creativity that feels like a fire coming to life. Whether you’re joining one of our Crafts & Cocktails events, trying out a new technique, or exploring our upcoming line of handmade goods, we’re here to make creativity accessible, memorable, and fun.
Meet Liz
Liz has always been fueled by creativity. Her love for the arts spans theater, dance, music, and visual art—she’s never met a creative discipline she didn’t want to explore. Her artistic journey began early, running the Kids Club at Michael’s Arts & Crafts in Orange County, where she taught young makers and discovered her passion for helping others find joy in creating.
From there, Liz went on to teach in private studios, local schools, and senior centers, sharing her belief that everyone has a creative spark waiting to be nurtured. After earning her Multiple Subject Teaching Credential and Master of Arts in Teaching from the University of California, Irvine, she joined the ArtsBridge program, bringing dance and theater education to underserved schools throughout the community.
Today, Liz teaches undergraduate and graduate-level arts courses for UCI’s School of Education and continues to blend her love of craft, performance, and teaching. Each winter, she and her partner David take the stage in the Lake Arrowhead School of Dance’s annual production of The Nutcracker, keeping their shared love of the arts at the heart of their lives.
At Hearthstone Crafts, Liz brings her warm teaching style, creative expertise, and boundless enthusiasm to every workshop she leads—helping people of all ages feel confident, inspired, and proud of what they create.
Meet David
David comes from a long line of woodworkers and artists, and creativity runs deep in his family roots. He began teaching art classes in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, working with after-school programs to give kids hands-on experiences with craft and imagination.
His path eventually led him west, where he studied permaculture and ecology—fields that continue to influence his respect for natural materials and sustainable craftsmanship. Today, David brings his skill in woodworking, art, and design to his work as a carpenter and cabinet maker for Pat Brennan Construction, where precision and creativity go hand in hand.
In his own woodshop, David’s passion for handmade craft truly shines. He creates everything from toy tops and Christmas ornaments to custom household goods, often reaching for traditional hand tools and whittling techniques passed down from his grandfather and the crafters who came before him. His work honors both artistry and tradition.
At Hearthstone Crafts, David’s woodworking expertise enriches the projects, tools, and designs behind the scenes—and soon, his handcrafted goods will be available as part of the Hearthstone Crafts collection.
